Alternative Health Care

With natural health products you can improve your health, immune system, digestion and strengthen your body. A majority of products carried in health stores are made from all natural products and most do not require approval of the food and drug administration. Taken by themselves for their intended purposes will usually not spark any side effects.

Most times when you aren’t feeling completely up to par you can find something to make you feel better at a health store, provided you are open to trying alternative measures for your health. That’s not to say you should shun your physician, but running to the doctor for trivial symptoms like a running nose may be expensive when a trip to the health store could provide similar relief without the similar cost.

However, some natural products may interfere with prescription drugs and prevent them from working properly or possibly negate their purpose. Before you take anything from a health store, check with a pharmacist who will know whether it is safe for you to take.

For example, a person taking beta blockers for high blood pressure are advised to steer clear of grapefruit juice. Your pharmacist will know if all natural tablets containing grapefruit oils will cause issues with your other prescriptions. Most health stores also employ experts who should be able to answer similar questions.

While visiting the health store also check into natural soaps and cleaners, in addition to shampoos and skin conditioners as many are made without harsh perfumes and other chemicals. Keeping your entire body healthy is the reason you found the health store, so take advantage of what it has to offer.

Alternative Health Therapies Can Be an Effective Method of Care For Various Illnesses and Diseases

Alternative Health Therapies are practiced all over the world by various types of health care givers, using naturopathic and preventive methods for curing various diseases, that may be either psychological or physiological. Alternative therapies primarily originated from the Indian Sub-Continent and China around 4000 years ago. From the mid-eighteenth century, during the Popular Health Movement, alternative medicine began to be widely practiced in America. Some of the common methods that were, and still are, used in alternative health therapies are naturopathy, chiropractic, herbalism, traditional Chinese medicine, aurveda, meditation, yoga, biofeedback, hypnosis, homeopathy, acupuncture, and nutritional-based therapies.

Practice of alternative medicine varies in its foundation and in its methodologies. It may be based on traditional techniques, spiritual beliefs, and even folk knowledge. Diseases like Scabies, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, High/Low Blood Pressure etc. may be cured by these alternative therapies. Psychological Disorders and also chronic diseases like cancer can be treated by the long term use of alternative medicine therapies. The major advantage of these alternative therapies is that they don’t possess as many side-effects as those evidence-based methods that use drugs and surgery. Various holistic approaches make alternative health therapies very effective. There are hundreds of universities and research centers that study alternative medicine and therapies. The practitioners of these fields are called Naturopathic Doctors. Also, there are vast numbers of healthcare centers that provide these services for those people seeking alternative health care. As every aspect in every sector of the world leads towards digitization and focusing on information technology, alternative therapies have also reached the homes of people, who may not usually have access to these treatments, through internet based health monitoring system. Numerous tools and gadgets have been invented and used for such specific purposes. Such tools have various sensors and transducers that effectively pick up slight changes in patients’ reflexes and cellular changes during monitoring. Practitioners can then examine the reports and treat accordingly. Not all alternative health practitioners will have access to all these tools and resources Neither will they all have the experience and knowledge to practice using such advanced methods, so if you are interested in remote health care and monitoring it is important to choose your alternative health care practitioner wisely and to vet their experience.

More experienced practitioner of alternative medicine use advance techniques such as Bowen Therapy, Limbic Stress Assessment (LSA) and Voice Remapping to treat their patients.

The important thing to remember about seeking alternative health treatments is that your practitioner will treat both the symptoms and the underlying causes. Alternative health therapies look to bring the body back into its natural balance by healing the mind, spirit and body. Only once this is achieved can the body begin to start healing itself.

Living Life Medicine – Pharmaceutical Free – Part II

Living Life Medicine/Pharmaceutical Free sounds like an oxymoron-doesn’t it? To some it is-to others it will seem redundant, because millions of people throughout the world are living Medicine/Pharmaceutical Free. How can that be?-Every one gets sick-you might say. Yes, occasionally, people need remedies because they are sick, however, there are a plethora of natural remedies.

The five most common uses of prescription drugs are for Depression, Antibiotics, Menopause, High Blood Pressure and Ulcers.

Through illness your body is working to get your attention. Every malady or pain-either physical or mental is your body’s way of communicating what it needs.

Depression Remedies:

St. John’s Wort,

St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum in Latin), the most frequently used natural remedy for depression, is a long-living plant with yellow flowers. It contains many chemical compounds. Some are believed to be the active ingredients that produce the herb’s effects, including the compounds hypericin and hyperforin. Alternative Medicine Review 1998 (Feb); 3 (1): 18-26

Hypericum (St. John’s Wort) has been favorably compared to numerous antidepressant drugs, the studies having revealed equivalent results and a much more favorable incidence of side effects. Studies have also demonstrated its efficacy in treating seasonal affective disorder.

Kava: The kava root is ground to a powder, and it has a brownish color. The brownish powder is then mixed with water and drank as a beverage, without being fermented. Extracts from the kava root are placed in capsules and sold as kava or kava kava. Additional herbs and nutrients involved in relaxation include 5-HTP, ashwagandha, passionflower, and valerian. Users report the following results:

o A state of relaxation, without feeling drugged
o Muscle tension is reduced
o Peaceful and contentment
o More sociable in the right company
o Mild euphoria, occasionally
o Mental alertness is often not effected, except on high doses
o Initial alertness followed by drowsiness which comes on after a few hours, can be taken in the evening, a few hours before bedtime

SAMe: SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) is not an herb or a hormone. It’s a molecule that all living cells, including our own, produce constantly. How does extra SAMe improve a person’s mood? Researchers have identified several possibilities. Normal brain function involves the passage of chemical messengers between cells. SAMe may enhance the impact of mood-boosting messengers such as serotonin and dopamine-either by regulating their breakdown or by speeding production of the receptor molecules they latch on to. SAMe may also make existing receptors more responsive. In 1994 Dr. Giorgio Bressa, a psychiatrist at the University Cattolica Sacro Cuore in Rome, pooled results from a dozen controlled trials and found that “the efficacy of SAMe in treating depressive syndromes… is superior [to] that of placebo and comparable to that of standard… antidepressants.”

Depression is anger held inside–Hypnosis has proven to be highly effective in uncovering the core issue of the person’s anger and helping them to resolve it.

Antibiotics: Excessive use of antibiotics breeds antibiotic-resistant bacteria-germs that are immune to antibiotics! Amoxicillin also destroys large numbers of protective “good” bacteria that reside in your intestine, making you more vulnerable to other infections. A recent article in the American Medical Association Journal reported that probiotics might actually protect against many infections. Gary W. Elmer,pH.D., of the University of Washington, Seattle, reports that probiotics greatly reduce the risk of gastrointestinal and vaginal infections.

Instead of using antibiotics, which have a plethora of side effects use, Probiotics, Garlic, Echinacea and Goldensea are highly effectivel.

Menopause:

Menopause is the stopping of periods or menses. The average age is 52, however, menopause can occur in the 30’s or 60’s. The perimenopausal or menopause phase in a woman’s life can be dramatic or quite simple – it is different for every woman – but every woman does stop having periods.

Ulcers: Gastric Ulcers form when the mucus lining of the stomach loses its ability to repel stomach acids. The acids, which digest food, begin to digest your stomach instead. If the ulcer forms at the top of the small intestine, it’s a duodenal ulcer.

For temporary relief of gastric ulcer pain, activated charcoal is effective, says, Agatha Thrash, M.D., a medical pathologist and co-founder and co-director of Uchee Pines Institute, a natural healing center in Seale, Alabama.

Other remedies include: Flower Remedy/Essence Therapy, Food Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Reflexology, Relaxation and Meditation, Sound Therapy, Vitamin and Mineral Therapy.

When you neglect your mind, body and spirits’ needs sooner or later, your body breaks down, and you experience the pain-diagnosed as migraine headaches, MS, lupus, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, TMJ, PMS and the list goes on.

The purpose of this article is to direct you to the realization that you are activated from within; that life and healing come from within; and ultimately that the maintenance of health is superior to the treatment of disease.
